Sir Tom Jones has sold his LA home and moved to London to fulfil his wife’s dying wish

The star quit Los Angeles and has sold the couple’s home and all their possessions, apart from treasured photos.

Sir Tom, 77, now lives in a flat in London and reveals Linda had insisted he return following her death to ensure he was close to family and friends.

“I didn’t feel comfortable there any more – she decorated the whole place – and she wanted me to come back to Britain.

“She was always homesick and then she got sick.

“She always said she wanted to come back and then she couldn’t do it, so then she told me to do it in the last week she was alive,” said Sir Tom, who was married to Linda for 59 years.

She died in 2016, aged 75.

“She knew she was going because she had lung cancer.

“She said, ‘You should get a flat in London’.

“She said, ‘You should go home’.

“I didn’t want to think about it.

“She would have loved to have come back but she left it too late,” added Sir Tom, who then sold up.

“The thing is, I’ve always had a British passport,” he said.

“I never became an American citizen.”

The Mediterranean-style house in the hills above Los Angeles had five bedrooms and a pool.

“Apart from the photographs and some artwork, the man who bought it wanted the whole thing.

“That was great for me because I wouldn’t have been able to put all that in a flat anyway.”

Sir Tom married childhood sweetheart Linda when they were teenagers and described her as the love of his life.

They met, aged 12, in Sir Tom’s home town of Pontypridd, in south Wales, and married when both were 16.

Their son, Mark, is Sir Tom’s manager.

Sir Tom, who returned as a talent coach on ITV’s The Voice last night, underwent hip replacement surgery last year.

Following months of physiotherapy he is walking without a stick.

“My health is good, my leg’s working great now.

“I’m out walking every day and it’s like nothing ever happened.”

The singer, whose hits include Green Green Grass Of Home and It’s Not Unusual, also told how The Voice producers have added some cushions to his spinning chair – to stop him slouching.

“They said, ‘Do you think you could sit up a little bit more?’

“I said it would be easier if I’ve got something behind my back.

“That chair is so big you’ve got to sit to the front of it or the back, and apparently when I sit down I’ve got a habit of slouching.”

Last night the new series of The Voice show saw singer Olly Murs take over from Gavin Rossdale as a coach.

He joined Sir Tom and US performers will.i.am and Jennifer Hudson.
