The 25-year-old actress, who starred romantic comedy The Other Woman, took a risk during her latest shoot in Aruba by standing on a rock in the sea on what appeared to be a stormy day.
Kate posed topless for her latest Sports Illustrated magazine shoot, where she wore just an oversized tulle skirt to cover her derrière.
The blonde beauty covered her assets and showcased her well-defined thighs as she was captured by a photographer, before the wind took its toll and a giant wave swept her off the rock.
Kate’s team member failed to save the model as she tumbled instantly into the sea at a considerable force, with the video now having been unearthed.
The disaster left the bombshell exposed, giving viewers a full view of her gold thong and rear.
Numerous crew members rushed to her aid as she struggled to get up from the shallow sea water.
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit posted the unfortunate blunder to their Instagram account.
They captioned the clip: “Things got a little rocky on @kateupton’s #SISwim 2018 shoot in Aruba!”
Many of their one million followers flocked to comment on the embarrassing gaffe, which sparked mixed opinions.
One user wore: “Props to the guy that tried to help her. Kate just wasn’t paying attention.”
Another penned: “This is too funny but damn it looked like it hurt!”
Kate had her say on the viral clip, in which she revealed that it was her heavy skirt that “dragged” her down.
She wrote: “The next coming wave didn’t look that large from my point of view but it must have hit the rock just right.
“The skirt with all the tulle, whenever it’s wet is very heavy and dragged me down. Everybody was very scared.”
Luckily, Kate managed to move on from the incident and her team eventually got the shot they needed.
The actress stars in the 2018 SI Swimsuit Edition alongside Aly Raisman, 23, and Ashley Graham, 30.
